With a gleaming solid-glass tabletop to reflect its surroundings and linear steel legs, NoNo Coffee Table presents a cleanly elegant profile. It's the result of a chance encounter between designers from Copenhagen's Norm.Architects and Stockholm-based Note Design Studio, who fell to discussing various interpretations of lightly scaled metalwork. In a choice of 2 sizes and varied colors of glass, each table holds its own—or a pair can be grouped for an extra-stylish flourish.
"It's about creating aesthetically pleasing designs that evoke true feelings,” Menu founder Bjarne Hansen told the online magazine Lonny, “as well as improving processes in people's daily lives.” Ranging from tabletop objects to bath fixtures to lighting and furniture, the Danish brand’s pursuit of "soft minimalism" involves collaborations with designers from all over the world. The company’s guiding spirit is a quest for functional originality—with each product having either a new purpose, incorporating a new material or utilizing a new production method.
Menu is just as dedicated to responsible manufacturing as it is innovation. Working to locate new partners in developing countries around the world, the company searches out local factories or small private co-operations to turn out high quality goods and also provide a better economic foundation for the people involved in that production. "We’re passionate about design, new materials and clever details," say the folks at Menu, "and we dream about making a difference."
NOTE DESIGN STUDIO
“To note something, to get noted.” That’s the epigram that the founders of Note Design Studio, a Stockholm-based collective, use to explain their vision. “We are named after what we try to achieve. We like to pay attention to our surroundings, and try to create things that make others do the same.”
Working within the fields of architecture, interiors, products, graphic design and design strategy, the partners emphasize a tactile quality in both objects and architecture and embrace off-the-cuff inspiration—even doodles in the margins of their design notebooks. Alexis Holmqvist, Johannes Carlström, Susanna Wahlin, Kristoffer Fagerström and Cristiano Pigazzini bring an exuberance to their work that’s witty, irrepressible and, well, noteworthy.
