Young London designer André Klauser redefines the notion of trestle table legs with his sleek update. In laser-cut steel plate and oval steel tubing, VG&P Trestles are visually lighter and airier in appearance than conventional trestles. The graphic effect of the design is striking in its cool grey powder-coat finish.
Graduating from the Royal College of Art in product design in 2002, André Klauser set up his own practice in London the very same year. The Hanover native had previously studied design at the Fachhochschule Münster and worked in London for Jasper Morrison. His portfolio includes a range of projects in the fields of furniture, product, interiors and exhibition design. André says he is inspired by everyday life and the objects that surround us in our normal routine.
His clients include Thorsten van Elten, Authentics and Established & Sons. He’s also a partner in the design and production company Very Good & Proper. Often collaborating with fellow designer Ed Carpenter under the name Klauser & Carpenter, he continues to live and work in London. Along with his professional duties, André has returned to RCA—as an instructor. "Design is the result of our desire to shape the world around us," he says. "It is a chain of decisions based on our view of the world."
