Sometimes it’s good to come back to the nest. With the Cacoon Single Hammock, now there’s a cozy hideaway for kicking back. British husband-and-wife team Nick and Sarah McDonald spent years designing and crafting canvas sails for yachts. One time, on holiday in Mexico, they noticed the tentlike nests of local weaver birds. Adapting the notion for us humans, their Cacoon is made from sturdy, weatherproof canvas that’s been treated for mold-resistance and UV protection. In a range of mood-lifting bright hues, with tool-free assembly and a variety of add-on accessories for contented use inside or out.

Little did husband-and-wife designing duo Nick and Sarah McDonald know that kicking back on holiday in Mexico would also kick off their company Cacoon and its line of tent-like hammock hybrids. With a background in fashioning custom sails for ocean-going yachts, they were looking for a new concept in après-spa relaxation for a luxury hotel. On that Mexican jaunt, it was serendipity when they came across a colony of tiny hanging nests created by the local weaver bird. Later over dinner (and a few margaritas, they say) inspiration struck for their own version, combining hammock, swing chair and treehouse. After months of design, iteration and rigorous testing came the Cacoon, a chill-out space for all ages that’s become an international favorite.
