Cap it off—strikingly!— with the Drop Cap Pendant Set in gleaming copper, black or white. Plumen first lit up the design world with its iconic take on the everyday light bulb. Now, it offers a suspendible option that accommodates either version of its much-lauded, low-energy Plumen CFL bulb. Collaborating with East London design studio Hulger, the company’s elegantly proportioned set includes the light fixture, ceiling cover plate and 2m of adjustable fabric hanging cord.
“Reducing our energy consumption should feel like a positive, life enhancing choice, not a compromise,” says Hulger co-founder Nicolas Roope. With partner Michael-George Hemus in the London-based studio and input from third designer Samuel Wilkinson, the first stylish eco-friendly bulb—the Plumen 001—became a reality. Its kinetic sculptural form was meant to be seen, not hidden from view like yesteryear’s low-energy lighting. Hulger followed up on the award-winning original with the Plumen 002, as well as accompanying pendant fixtures and shades. Though the 001 resides in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt Collection, Nicolas is just as excited about the lightbulbs being widely accessible: “I love thinking about containers stacked full of beautifully packaged Plumens getting lifted on to freighters in Shanghai and lifting off in Southampton, Los Angeles or Melbourne.”
