A torch we can come to grips with, this ribbed silicone flashlight directly references the familiar, comfy form of a BMX bicycle grip. Alexander Taylor sought a simple, tactile way of interpreting this household essential, and his result is too good to let go of. It also contains an LED bulb for a long-lasting way to light up the night. Part of the ongoing "rubber" series for Hong Kong-based Praxis.
Brit Alexander Taylor has designed everything from tables and torches to footwear and fine jewelry. Best known at A+R for the Grip Flashlight by Praxis–-recently added to the permanent collection of New York's Cooper Hewitt Design Museum—Alexander has developed furniture and lighting for some of Europe’s leading design manufacturers such as Zanotta, Established & Sons and ClassiCon. His studio, established in 2002, is also renowned for its private commissions, most notably for the late Alexander McQueen. A visiting lecturer in design products at the Royal College of Art, his range even includes the Primeknit sneaker for Adidas unveiled at the 2012 London Olympics. As he puts it, "I take a real-life approach to design."
