Shanghay Chair

Both the Danish and Chinese tradition for minimalism come together in the Shanghay chair, made of four narrow boards bent to form the simplest conceivable chair. Its name merges the origins of its debut showcase: the chair was created for the Danish Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The stunningly bright white pavilion was co-designed by BIG, the architecture firm founded by Bjarke Ingels. He is also one-third of KiBiSi, the Copenhagen idea-driven industrial design firm helmed by two other fellow radical inventors and thinkers, Lars Holme Larsen and Jens Martin Skibsted. Collectively, they bring their brains and their respective teams together in a symbiotic hybrid of design, architecture and ideation. Among the products they’ve given birth to are the TMA-1 headsets for AIAIA and this chair for HAY Denmark.
